MV+ News Desk | April 12, 2026

The Managing Director of Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), Abdul Matheen, has announced his resignation with immediate effect.

In a brief statement shared on social media, the outgoing MD said, “With immediate effect, I have resigned from the post of Managing Director of MWSC. Thank you.” No reason was provided for the decision.

The resignation comes amid a broader pattern of dismissals and resignations involving senior officials in state-owned enterprises, following a significant setback for candidates of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) in the recent Maldives Local Council and WDC Elections 2026, as well as the referendum held the same day on merging parliamentary and presidential elections.

Earlier today, the Chief Executive Officer of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO), Farhath Shaheer, also resigned. MIFCO’s Senior Manager of Public Relations, Shifza Musthafa, confirmed that Shaheer called a meeting with executive board members and staff, where he announced his resignation and thanked employees. No reason was disclosed.

The Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) has also confirmed several recent leadership changes across state-owned companies.

DCP (Retired) Mohamed Rishwan resigned last week as Managing Director of Maldives Ports Limited, a position he had held since February 2025.

Following the election results, the PCB dismissed DCP (Retired) Hussain Didi as Managing Director of Agro National Corporation. The board had also earlier removed Ahmed Najah from his role as Managing Director and board member of Fenaka Corporation Limited. Najah had been appointed on 23 December 2024.
