Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed said today that there are no difficulties in travelling to Saudi Arabia to perform the Hajj pilgrimage, despite the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Speaking at a press conference held by a crisis committee formed in response to the regional situation, the minister said arrangements for Hajj have been completed and visas for Maldivian pilgrims have been secured.
He added that all travel-related arrangements, including accommodation and flights, have been finalised.
“All matters concerning Maldivian pilgrims have been very successfully completed. Visas have now been issued. Additionally, accommodation, other preparations, flight travels, and all other aspects have been arranged,” he said.
Maldivian pilgrims are scheduled to depart for the 1447 AH Hajj pilgrimage starting from 15 May.
Under arrangements introduced last year, 50 per cent of pilgrims will travel on Saudia, while the remaining 50 per cent will fly on the national carrier, Maldivian.
Four flights have been scheduled for departures from the Maldives:
- 15 May: 242 pilgrims
- 17 May: 250 pilgrims
- 18 May: 243 pilgrims
- 19 May: 250 pilgrims
Pilgrims departing on 15 and 18 May will travel via Saudia, while those departing on 17 and 19 May will travel via Maldivian.
The Ministry said Hajj preparations are being carried out jointly by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, the Hajj Mission, and the Hajj Corporation.
