The Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development has opened applications for the TVET Teacher Training Scholarship, offering opportunities for students to pursue technical and vocational education programmes at diploma and degree levels.
According to the ministry, the government-funded scheme includes seven diploma-level programmes and three bachelor’s degree courses. Applications will be accepted until 26 April at 13:30hrs.
Under the programme, students will be able to undertake studies in 24 countries, including neighbouring nations. Applicants are required to meet the minimum entry criteria set out in the Maldives National Qualification Framework, as established by the Maldives Qualifications Authority.
Diploma courses are offered in Manufacturing Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechatronics, Graphic Design, Carpentry Technology, Information Technology, and Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.
At degree level, programmes are available in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Marine Engineering Technology, and Automotive Engineering.
The ministry stated that the scholarship fully covers the cost of study. Recipients will, however, be required to serve at the Maldives Polytechnic for a specified period, depending on the duration of their course.
Applicants must secure placement in a full-time programme conducted in English and begin their studies within 12 months of being awarded the scholarship. The ministry stated that failure to meet these conditions will result in the withdrawal of the scholarship.
The ministry also noted that individuals selected under the Student Loan Scheme who have not yet signed their agreements are eligible to apply, although successful applicants will be required to withdraw from the loan scheme.
Students who are currently benefiting from other scholarship programmes are not eligible to apply, the ministry added.
