The Maldives Police Service has urged the public not to circulate untrue stories or videos regarding the death of a girl staying at the Maldives National University hostel, Majudhudheen Dhanaal, in Malé.

The deceased has been identified as an 18-year-old young woman. According to police, she died at the hostel on Monday night.

Police stated that investigations are ongoing in coordination with relevant authorities to examine all aspects of the case and take necessary action.

Authorities also noted that untrue stories, baseless allegations and videos related to the incident have been circulating on social media and other platforms. They warned that the spread of unverified information could cause further distress to the family of the deceased and may hinder the ongoing investigation.

Police have advised the public to refrain from sharing unconfirmed information.

No further details regarding the incident have been disclosed.

Majudhudheen Dhanaal accommodates a large number of students enrolled in various courses, including many from islands outside the capital.
