Maldives Police Service has denied using force during a protest held last night by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), after an individual was taken to hospital from the scene.
In a statement, police said rumours circulating online claiming the person was injured due to police action were false. Authorities stated that no force was used to control the gathering and that the incident was not caused by any measures taken by officers.
The statement follows allegations by the MDP that police used excessive force against protesters, including claims that a taser was used on the individual who was hospitalised.
