Adhadhu Managing Editor Hassan Mohamed (L) and CEO Hussain Fiyaz (R). The travel ban notice issued to Managing Editor Hassan stated that his passport was seized due to the publication of a video—referring to the documentary—in which “numerous lies” about the president were allegedly spread.

Authorities have imposed a travel ban on Adhadhu CEO Hussain Fiyaz and Managing Editor Hassan Mohamed, with their passports confiscated, according to sources.

The action comes amid ongoing developments following the police raid on the outlet’s newsroom last night, and the fallout from its recent documentary.

The travel ban notice issued to Managing Editor Hassan stated that his passport was seized due to the publication of a video—referring to the documentary—in which “numerous lies” about the president were allegedly spread. It also cited intelligence information indicating that Hassan was attempting to leave the country.

The move further escalates tensions between authorities and the media outlet following the seizure of equipment from Adhadhu’s office.

The travel bans and the raid follow the release of a documentary last month by Adhadhu, in which a woman under a pseudonym and with a concealed identity alleged a sexual relationship with the President at the President’s Office. She further alleged that the President had given her regular “gifts” during the period of their relationship.

At a press conference held yesterday, Adhadhu journalist Mohamed Shahzan asked the President about the documentary, to which the President responded that the allegations were “lies.” He further stated that he would seek legal action against all those involved in the documentary.

The journalist responded by saying that it was not for the President to determine whether the allegations were false or not, and that such claims should be assessed through an investigation.
