Tradian Expands Border Services with New Permit Applications

MV+ News Desk | May 6, 2026

The expansion of Tradian will move more border-related processes into the Maldives’ national digital trade system, as authorities continue shifting import and export services away from separate agency channels and towards a single online platform.

Vessel Declaration, Fireworks Import Permit, and Flare Import Permit services will be added to Tradian from 10 May 2026, according to a joint announcement issued by agencies involved in the platform.

The change means businesses and service seekers involved in shipping, port clearance, and regulated imports will be able to submit these applications through Tradian, which was launched for official use under its first phase on 20 April 2025.

To support the transition, applications for the newly added services will continue to be accepted through existing procedures until 10 June 2026. From 11 June 2026, however, these services will only be available through Tradian.

The Fireworks Import Permit Application and Flare Import Permit Application will be provided through the Ministry of Defence and National Service. Vessel Declaration, which involves multiple border and port authorities, will be handled through coordination between Maldives Customs Service, Maldives Ports Limited, the Ministry of Defence and National Service, Port Health, Maldives Immigration, and the Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade.

The addition of these services reflects the government’s broader digitalisation agenda, particularly in areas linked to trade facilitation and border management. By bringing multiple agency processes into a single platform, Tradian is intended to reduce fragmentation in import and export procedures and give businesses a more centralised route for regulatory approvals.
