Two Men Arrested in Police Operations in Malé and GDh. Nadella

The Maldives Police Service has arrested two men in separate operations conducted on 5 May in connection with suspected alcohol and narcotics offences.

In the first case, a 45-year-old Bangladeshi national, identified as Jakir Howlader, was arrested in Malé on suspicion of alcohol consumption and trafficking. Police said the arrest was made during a joint operation carried out by the Drug Enforcement and Counter Narcotics Intelligence. Officers reportedly discovered six bottles containing substances believed to be alcohol during a search conducted following his arrest.

Police stated that the required legal procedures have now been completed, and Jakir Howlader has been handed over to Maldives Immigration for deportation from the Maldives.

In a separate case, a 29-year-old man identified as Ahmed Zahim, of Duburimage, GDh. Nadella was arrested on his home island in connection with a suspected narcotics offence. According to police, the arrest was made during an operation conducted near the Nadella harbour area.

The Maldives Police Service stated that officers searched the suspect’s belongings after intercepting him and discovered a juice-packet-sized bag and a rubber packet containing substances suspected to be narcotics.

Ahmed Zahim was later presented before the court for a remand hearing, where the court ordered him to be held in custody for five days.
