Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed said the mobile application developed for the Malé Taxi Line service operated by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company will be made available for public use within the coming week.
Speaking at a press conference held at the President’s Office, Saeed said the application has now been approved by the Apple App Store and that final arrangements are underway for its release.
“Apple store has approved the app, meaning in this week or the next week, the app will be made to download in the most trouble-free manner,” he said.
The minister said the service is currently operating through a web-based platform, but the mobile application will provide greater convenience for users when booking taxis.
According to MTCC statistics, the average waiting time from booking to arrival is around eight minutes, while the average trip duration stands at 12.2 minutes. The company said demand continues to rise, with 11,128 trips completed between 13 and 18 April alone.
MTCC also recorded 7,251 web-based bookings between 18 April and 1 May. It said bookings within Malé have increased by around 50 per cent since the service was launched.
The Malé Taxi Line service was introduced as a government initiative to address transport challenges in the capital and was officially launched by President Mohamed Muizzu at Hulhumalé Central Park earlier this month.
MTCC said passengers can continue to book taxis through the website or by calling the hotline 1655, with fares set by the Ministry of Transport.
