The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) will hold an additional round of voting in Dhaalu Atoll, Meedhoo constituency, on June 13, after a High Court ruling resulted in a tie in the council president race in the local council elections held on April 4.
In a statement, the ECM said the High Court’s ruling regarding the election determined that one ballot paper from the Dhaalu Atoll, Meedhoo Constituency ballot box Dh. Meedhoo-2 (M1.2 | 208) should be considered valid. Following this decision, the votes cast for the position of Dhaalu Atoll, Meedhoo Council President resulted in an equal number for the top candidates, prompting the need for an additional round of voting.
The commission said it had, therefore, decided to hold the run-off election on Saturday, June 13, 2026.
Two candidates will contest the position of Dhaalu Atoll, Meedhoo, Council President. They are Suha Ibrahim of Dh. Meedhoo / Dilshadhuge, the candidate of the People’s National Congress, and Mohamed Shahid of Dh. Meedhoo / Mushtarivilla, the candidate of the Maldives Development Alliance.
Voting will take place from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Counting will begin after a 30-minute break following the close of polls, and the official results are scheduled to be announced on June 14, 2026.
The ECM said complaints or issues related to the additional round can be submitted through the “Complaints/Issues Submission Form” via complaints@elections.gov.mv.
