MFDA Blacklists 21 Unregistered Medical Products, Warns of Health Risks
The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has blacklisted 21 medical and pharmaceutical products that are not registered with the Ministry of Health, commonly imported and distributed by private pharmacies and online sellers, and warns that their use could pose serious health risks.
In a statement issued under the Healthcare Profession Act and related regulations governing medical devices and pharmaceutical trade, the Ministry of Health said only facilities registered with the Ministry are permitted to import, wholesale, or retail medical devices in the Maldives. The Ministry also stated that all medical devices must be registered prior to import and commercial distribution.
Authorities said they had identified private healthcare facilities, pharmacies, and traders importing and distributing unregistered products to healthcare providers and consumers in violation of existing regulations.

The Ministry has now instructed all parties to immediately stop the import, sale, distribution, and use of unregistered medical devices and warned that enforcement action would be taken against violators under the “Regulation on Medical Devices” and the Healthcare Profession Act.
Among the 21 blacklisted products are medications and creams used for diabetes management, skin treatment, hair growth, sexual enhancement, and pain relief.
Some products identified by the MFDA include:
- Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) and Ozempic (Semaglutide) — injectable medicines used to reduce blood glucose levels.
- Aziderm Cream, Melacare, SkinLite, MyFair Cream, No Scars, and Tretinoin (Retin-A Cream) — products used for the treatment of melasma and skin pigmentation conditions.
- Moov Spray and Moov Ointment — topical pain relief products.
- Nomadil Minoxidil Solution — marketed for hair growth treatment.
- Hongthai Balm/Inhaler, Mens Oil, and ILUM Male Sexual Enhancement Chocolate — products whose active ingredients were either unconfirmed or found to contain undeclared pharmaceutical substances.
- Sexual enhancement and desensitising products, including Stud 100 Spray, Procomil Spray, Viga 50000 Spray, Notty Boys Lidocaine & Prilocaine Gel, Extend Delay Gel, and Kamagra Oral Jelly Sildenafil 100mg.
The MFDA stated that some of the listed products contain substances such as sildenafil, tadalafil, lidocaine, and prilocaine, while others were found to have undeclared active pharmaceutical ingredients or unverified compositions.
Authorities warned that the use of such unregistered products could result in severe health consequences for consumers, particularly when used without medical supervision or regulatory approval.
