President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that efforts are underway to open the Citizens’ Complaints Bureau, which will accept public concerns and complaints 24 hours a day, before 26 July.
The President made the remarks while speaking on PSM News’ “Nation Chat” programme on Thursday evening.
President Muizzu said the government is prioritising efforts to improve accountability and public services, including front office operations at ministries and the handling of phone calls.
He said the Citizens’ Complaints Bureau, first announced during his presidential address, is intended to play a central role in addressing these issues.
According to the President, administrative work to establish the bureau is progressing rapidly and a person has already been appointed to manage the facility.
The President said complaints submitted to the bureau will be managed through a digital system integrated with Artificial Intelligence (AI).
He explained that the system will collect information from relevant government agencies and provide prompt responses to public complaints.
The bureau will also include a 24-hour service call centre.
According to the President, complaints can be submitted through letters, email, Rayyithunge Adu (Voice of the People), the GEMS messaging platform, phone calls and social media channels.
President Muizzu said the bureau’s digital system will be used across government agencies to manage complaints submitted to individual institutions through a single compliance management mechanism.
He added that the Citizens’ Complaints Bureau will also monitor how government institutions respond to complaints and hold agencies accountable for addressing public concerns.
