India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has introduced a mandatory self-declaration requirement for all passengers travelling to the country, following global health alerts related to Ebola.

The measure comes after the World Health Organization (WHO) classified Ebola as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, prompting precautionary travel and screening protocols.

Under the new requirement, airlines operating flights to India must ensure passengers complete a self-declaration form outlining their health status. Aviation authorities have also instructed carriers to announce health and safety notices onboard during flights.

The Maldivian national airline has informed passengers of the updated requirements and confirmed that the self-declaration form will be available through its official website. Travellers are required to submit the completed form upon arrival in India at designated health and immigration counters.

Indian health authorities have also implemented precautionary monitoring measures, including quarantine for individuals under observation for possible symptoms, despite initial test results showing no confirmed cases.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has stated that the risk of Ebola entering the Maldives remains low. It has also advised the public to avoid non-essential travel to regions experiencing outbreaks as a preventive measure.

Health authorities continue to monitor the situation in line with WHO guidance and evolving global developments.
