Fahi Union has urged recipients of the 4,000 housing flats awarded under the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme to apply for registration in the Malé Residents’ Registry, stating that beneficiaries continue to face difficulties because they are not officially registered as residents of the capital.
In a statement issued yesterday, the union said the Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has established a system through its online portal allowing flat recipients to obtain documents required by the Malé City Council for residency registration.
According to the union, FDC has already begun issuing letters to applicants who submit requests through the portal.
The union called on all beneficiaries of the 4,000 housing units to apply through the FDC portal as soon as possible, obtain the required letter and submit it to the Malé City Council to complete their registration.

Fahi Union said the lack of registration in the Malé Residents’ Registry has created numerous difficulties for flat recipients. It also appealed to the Malé City Council to process registrations without imposing additional burdens on beneficiaries.
The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development began handing over the flats to recipients in September.
The Gedhoruveriyaa housing scheme was launched during the administration of former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to address the housing shortage in Malé.
The first list of beneficiaries was published during the final days of the previous administration. However, allocations were later suspended after the Anti-Corruption Commission raised concerns regarding the integrity of the list.
The current administration had previously assured that they had subsequently reviewed the scheme before resuming the allocation process.
