Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has urged travellers to use public ferry and bus services when travelling to the airport due to an expected influx of Hajj pilgrims returning to the Maldives.

In a passenger advisory issued on Wednesday, MACL warned that congestion is likely at the airport on 5, 7, 8 and 9 June, when large numbers of pilgrims, travellers and those receiving arriving passengers are expected to gather at the airport.

The company said the increased volume of passengers and visitors is likely to result in heavy traffic and limited parking availability around the airport.

To help ease congestion and ensure smoother travel, MACL recommended that passengers use public ferry and bus services when travelling to and from the airport during the affected dates.

The advisory comes as the Maldives prepares to welcome home pilgrims returning from this year’s Hajj, one of the busiest travel periods of the year for airport operations.

MACL also thanked travellers for their cooperation and understanding during the expected peak period.
