Maldives and Japan Reaffirm Commitment to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef and Japanese Ambassador Ishigami Rumiko held discussions on Thursday, reaffirming the longstanding friendship and close cooperation between the Maldives and Japan.
Ambassador Ishigami paid a courtesy call on the Vice President at the President’s Office today, where both sides reviewed ongoing bilateral cooperation and explored avenues to further strengthen relations as the two countries prepare to mark 60 years of diplomatic relations next year.
During the meeting, the Vice President expressed appreciation for Japan’s continued support across key development areas, including human resource development, infrastructure, education, sports cooperation, climate resilience, disaster management and community development programmes.
He also welcomed the growing people-to-people exchanges between the two countries and highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation in tourism and economic sectors.
Both sides concluded the meeting by reaffirming their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation and strengthening the Maldives–Japan partnership.
