Police Arrest 23-Year-Old Over Suspected Drug Transport to AA. Feridhoo

A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of smuggling drugs into AA. Feridhoo following a joint operation by Feridhoo Police and Maalhos Police.

Police identified the suspect as Hassan Areeb, of Hirudhugasdhoshuge, AA. Himandhoo. He was arrested on 11 June after authorities received intelligence indicating that he was transporting drugs on a speedboat travelling from Malé to Alif Alif Atoll.

According to police, officers stopped and searched Areeb at the harbour in Feridhoo as part of the operation. During the search, officers discovered two rubber packets and three cellophane pieces containing substances suspected to be narcotics.

Following his arrest, Areeb was presented before the court to determine his remand status. The court ordered that he be held in custody for 15 days pending further investigation.

Police said the case remains under investigation.
