Man Arrested After Knife Assault at Hulhumalé Shop

Police have arrested a man suspected of carrying out an assault after entering a shop in Hulhumalé with a knife.

A video of the incident, which has since circulated widely on social media, shows members of the public restraining the suspect near the MACL flats area. The footage appears to show several people attempting to subdue the man while he was on the ground.

The video also shows an individual kicking the suspect in the face while he was being restrained.

In a statement, police stated that they received a report of a person entering a shop with a sharp weapon and committing an assault. Officers subsequently arrested a Maldivian man in connection with the case.
