Maldives Police Service (MPS) said that authorities are continuing search efforts after five containers fell into the sea from a barge at the outer jetty of the Malé Commercial Harbour last night, with three containers still missing as of the latest update.
The incident was reported to police by Maldives Ports Limited at around 11:10 pm last night, after several containers became dislodged from a barge while it was docked at the harbour and drifted into the sea.
In an update issued this morning, authorities confirmed that two of the five containers have been located, while efforts are ongoing to find the remaining three.
The containers are believed to be drifting in the sea area between Dhoonidhoo and Feydhoofinolhu, according to the police. Vessels operating in the area have been urged to exercise caution and maintain heightened vigilance while navigation continues in the affected waters.
