Two Arrested in Hulhumalé on Suspicion of Alcohol Possession and Trafficking

Two Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested today in Hulhumalé on suspicion of possessing, consuming, and trafficking alcohol.

According to the Maldives police service, the suspects are Al Nooman, 31, and Rakibul Hasan Papoon, 20. The arrests followed an operation launched after intelligence reports indicated that the pair were allegedly involved in alcohol trafficking.

The police stated that officers from Hulhumalé Phase 1 Police carried out the operation on 26 June. During the operation, officers arrested the two suspects and searched their apartment, where they discovered 15 bottles of alcohol.

When the suspects were brought before the court for a remand hearing, the court ordered Al Nooman to be remanded in custody for five days and Rakibul Hasan Papoon for 10 days.

The police stated that the investigation into the case remains ongoing.
