Maldivian to Operate More Than 2,000 Domestic Flights During School Holidays

National airline Maldivian will operate more than 2,000 domestic flights during the upcoming school holidays, increasing its operations by 17 per cent compared with its standard schedule to meet the expected rise in passenger demand.

Senior Manager for Marketing and Communications Hassan Sharih Adam said the airline had made preparations in advance for the seasonal travel peak. Tickets are now available for flights with the capacity to carry more than 110,000 passengers during the holiday period.

According to Sharih, Maldivian’s regular schedule includes more than 1,700 domestic flights. Based on passenger demand forecasts, the airline has added more than 325 supplementary flights, bringing the total number of domestic services to more than 2,000.

He said the airline expects to transport over 91,700 passengers on its scheduled flights and more than 18,200 passengers on the additional services, with the total number of passengers projected to exceed 110,000. The supplementary services will account for approximately one in every six flights operated during the school holiday period.

Maldivian also recorded a high volume of operations during the recent Eid holidays, operating more than 1,200 domestic flights. This included 1,014 scheduled flights and 213 additional services.

During the Eid travel period, the airline carried more than 65,000 passengers, with supplementary flights accounting for around one in every five services operated.
