The July edition of the Maaranga Market opened in Maafushi, Kaafu Atoll, on Wednesday, providing a platform for local entrepreneurs to showcase Maldivian products, traditional food and handicrafts.
The three-day event is organised by the Business Center Corporation (BCC), the Maafushi Council and Maafushi Local Authority Company Limited. The market will be open daily from 4:00pm to 11:00pm.
The event features a range of locally produced goods, traditional cuisine, handicrafts and souvenirs, with organisers saying this month’s edition includes a larger number of vendors and a wider variety of products.
According to the organisers, the market is intended to provide entrepreneurs and small businesses with a regular opportunity to engage directly with customers and introduce their products to a broader audience.
They said the increased participation of vendors offers more businesses the chance to promote their products to both local residents and the growing number of domestic and international visitors to Maafushi.
As one of the Maldives’ leading local tourism destinations, Maafushi attracts a steady flow of tourists, providing an opportunity for visitors to experience authentic Maldivian products and culture.
Organisers said the market is expected to support the promotion of locally made products, traditional cuisine and handmade crafts while strengthening opportunities for local businesses and cultural exchange.
