Six Maldivian Men Arrested Over Suspected Assault Plot, Police Say

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has arrested six Maldivian men on suspicion of planning to carry out assaults using sharp weapons in Malé and Hulhumalé.
According to MPS, officers conducted a search of a guesthouse on Raiveri Hingun and its surrounding area under a court order on the night of 2 July 2026, detaining the six individuals during the operation.
Those arrested include two 30-year-old men, a 34-year-old man, a 32-year-old man, a 23-year-old man, and a 21-year-old man.
Police said officers recovered a folding knife and MVR 39,695 during the search.
Following their presentation in court for remand hearings, the court ordered four of the suspects to be held in custody for 15 days, while two were released under specific conditions.
Police said investigations into the case are ongoing.
