The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has launched a specialised Family and Child-Centred Investigation Course to strengthen the capacity of officers investigating cases involving children and family-related issues.
The three-week course, which runs from 5 to 25 July, is organised by the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement’s Centre for Investigation, Crime and Justice in collaboration with the Family and Child Protection (FCP) unit. A total of 26 investigating officers are taking part, according to the Police.
According to MPS, the programme is designed to equip officers with the knowledge and skills required to investigate child and family cases while giving appropriate priority to the needs and rights of those involved.
The training covers laws, regulations and procedures relating to children, as well as interview techniques for child and family investigations. Participants will also receive guidance on recognising developmental changes in children and applying these considerations during investigations.
Police said representatives from relevant external institutions will also contribute to the course by delivering sessions in their respective areas of expertise.
