The Maldives Immigration has warned the public not to submit passport photographs that have been edited using artificial intelligence (AI) or similar digital tools, stating that such images do not comply with passport photo standards.

In a notice shared on social media today, the authority advised applicants that AI-generated or AI-edited photographs will not be accepted as part of passport applications.

The warning comes amid the rapid advancement of AI image-generation and editing technologies, which have made digitally altered images and deepfakes increasingly difficult to distinguish from authentic photographs without specialized detection tools.

While Immigration did not specify whether the advisory follows an increase in AI-edited submissions, the authority urged applicants to ensure passport photographs meet the required standards to avoid delays or rejection during the application process.
