President Urges Writers to Promote Truth on Maldivian Writers’ Day

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has called on Maldivian writers to promote truth, uphold national values and use the Dhivehi language to produce writing that benefits both present and future generations, as the country marked the 34th Maldivian Writers’ Day.

In a message commemorating the occasion, the President extended his greetings to Maldivian writers and the public, describing Islam as a religion that encourages teaching, the dissemination of truthful information and the promotion of literature. He urged writers to address others with courtesy and said Maldivian writers should be trustworthy individuals who love their country and write in ways that contribute to its pride and prosperity. He also prayed for blessings on the work of past and present Maldivian writers.

First Lady Sajidha Mohamed also extended greetings to those working to advance Dhivehi literature and writing, expressing hope for a bright future for Maldivian literature.

Meanwhile, Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Heena Waleed highlighted the contributions of Maldivian writers throughout the country’s literary history. She said writers have played an important role in raising national awareness, encouraging reading through literary initiatives and fostering civic values and patriotism among younger generations. The minister also wished for the continued growth of Maldivian literature and readership.
