Parliament has opened an opportunity for the public to submit their views on the Maldives 2.0 Digital Transformation Bill, with submissions accepted until 3 August.

Members of the public can share their feedback by emailing the Parliament’s ICT Committee at ict_committee@majilis.gov.mv.

The move comes after Parliament accepted the government’s proposed Maldives 2.0 Digital Transformation Bill and Digital Identity Bill earlier this month, advancing both bills to the committee stage following unanimous approval by members present.

The Maldives 2.0 Digital Transformation Bill proposes establishing the Maldives Digital Service, a new government institution responsible for coordinating the country’s digital transformation and digital governance framework.

The proposed legislation aims to develop an interconnected digital ecosystem by creating trusted government registries, enabling secure data sharing between state institutions and supporting the authentication of information exchanged across digital platforms.

If enacted, the bill will establish the Maldives 2.0 digital transformation programme, which seeks to modernise public services and government administration through a digital-first approach. The Maldives Digital Service will also oversee government ICT services, computer networks and digital infrastructure.
