The Maafannu Futsal Ground in Malé reopened on Sunday following the completion of renovation works carried out over the past several months.
Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdulla Rafiu officiated the reopening ceremony, which was attended by Maafannu West MP Musthafa Ibrahim, Road Development Corporation (RDC) Managing Director Ibrahim Nazeem and residents, including many young people from the area.
The sports minister said futsal grounds established by the government across the Greater Malé region are used extensively by young people throughout the day. He said maintaining these facilities in a safe and suitable condition remains a government priority.
He also said the refurbished Maafannu Futsal Ground is now available for use by residents of the district, adding that its long-term upkeep depends on responsible use by the public.
The Maafannu Futsal Ground was closed for renovation last year, with construction work beginning in December. The upgraded facility was officially handed over to the Road Development Corporation on 4 July.
