Boduthakurufaanu Magu Redevelopment Completed as Northern Section Reopens

The northern section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu reopened to the public on Friday following the completion of major redevelopment works, marking the end of the road improvement project.

The reopened section stretches from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) headquarters and was opened for public use in the late afternoon.

The MVR 144.5 million project was awarded to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) in April 2025. The redevelopment covered 830 metres of road, including the construction of an asphalt base, as well as 737 metres of sheet piling and a stormwater drainage system.

As part of the project, the road has been widened to four lanes and resurfaced with asphalt to improve traffic flow.

More than 3,000 coconut palms and other shade trees have also been planted along the coastal side of the road.

The redevelopment of Boduthakurufaanu Magu was undertaken to help ease traffic congestion in Malé City by improving one of its main ring roads.
