Björn Again Concert Cancelled After Venue Approval Withdrawn by Ministry at the Last Minute
Bjorn Again is the world’s leading tribute band to the world-renowned Swedish band ABBA.
The scheduled Björn Again ABBA FOREVER concert in the Maldives has been cancelled after the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness withdrew approval for the venue shortly before the event.
Event organiser Uber Events said the concert, scheduled to take place at the Social Centre tomorrow, was cancelled following a “last-minute directive” from the ministry while preparations were underway and the stage was already being constructed.
According to Uber Events, the decision was issued after members of Björn Again had already begun travelling to the Maldives.
The organiser said the cancellation had caused logistical and financial difficulties for the company and would also affect local artists scheduled to perform, sponsors and ticket holders.
Uber Events said it had an obligation to ensure artists invited to perform in the Maldives complied with the country’s laws, regulations and cultural values, adding that Björn Again had been prepared to comply with all local requirements during the performance.
The company apologised to ticket holders, Björn Again, local supporting artists and operational partners involved in organising the event.
Uber Events said full refunds for ticket purchases will be processed starting this week.
The organiser also said it remained committed to bringing international entertainment to the Maldives and would continue advocating for what it described as a “fair and predictable regulatory environment” for the local events and entertainment industry.
