MACL Expands Terminal 1 with New Passenger Rest and Service Area
Departing passengers at Velana International Airport’s Terminal 1 now have access to additional seating, children’s facilities and banking services following the opening of a new passenger rest and service area.
Developed by Maldives Airports Company Limited, the first-floor facility adds around 750 square metres of passenger seating space. The area includes a range of seating arrangements intended to ease congestion and improve comfort for travellers waiting to board.
A 136-square-metre children’s play area has also been included, with multi-level play platforms, woven mesh tunnels, rope and ring climbing features, and a ball pit. The facility is aimed at providing a more suitable waiting environment for families travelling through the terminal.
Bank of Maldives has opened a service point within the new area, offering foreign exchange services and US dollar issuance for Maldivian travellers.
The new facility forms part of MACL’s continuing upgrades at Terminal 1 as the airport works to expand passenger amenities and improve the departure experience.
