Ameenee Magu Section to Close at Midnight Tonight for Road Repair Works
MTCC carried out core-cutting works last week as part of a pre-construction survey ahead of the Ameenee Magu redevelopment works.
A section of Ameenee Magu in Malé will be closed to general traffic from midnight tonight as repair works on the road are set to begin tonight, the Maldives Police Service (MPS) said.
The Maldives Police Service said the road from the beginning of the Harbour Food Court to the end of Ameenee Magu towards Maafannu will be closed from 12am tonight. Vehicle owners have been asked to remove vehicles parked along the affected section before the closure comes into effect.

The closure is to allow for the repair works of the first segment of Ameenaa Magu, under the Male’ Magu Project to renew the damaged road.
The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) recently announced that the existing tarmac on the western section of the road will be removed, with re-tarring works scheduled to begin this week.

MTCC carried out core-cutting works last week as part of a pre-construction survey ahead of the redevelopment works.
The survey assessed the condition of the existing road surface and the soil underneath to determine the quality of the tarmac and ground before construction begins.
The section near the Harbour Food Court has deteriorated significantly, with uneven sections of tarmac causing bumps and potholes that have made driving difficult and potentially hazardous.
The road was last resurfaced two years ago, after the current administration took office. The previous administration awarded the MVR 84.4 million contract to Road Development Corporation (RDC) through the Planning Ministry. Despite the resurfacing, the tarmac on both sides of the road has since shifted unevenly, with Ameenee Magu remaining a source of concern among road users.
