According to the HPA, a recent case involving an individual exhibiting flu-like symptoms was identified yesterday. It has been ascertained that the infection was acquired abroad.
HPA officials are actively engaged in the process of gathering information from individuals who have come into contact with the affected person. This data collection aims to assess the potential extent of disease transmission.
In a bid to prevent further outbreaks, the HPA is taking measures to identify unvaccinated individuals, ensuring their timely immunization. This initiative extends to those residing in the vicinity of the infected individual’s location.
However, it is important to note that the individual discovered in this recent case is not connected to the previously reported incident from late last month.
Measles, marked by symptoms such as coughing, red skin spots, cough, runny nose, and redness of the eyes, necessitates prompt medical attention.
If these symptoms are observed, seeking guidance from a healthcare professional is strongly advised.
It is worth noting that the Maldives had eradicated measles in 2018. However, there have been a handful of cases since then. Most recently, a child tested positive for measles in Addu City in April this year.
