27th Batch of Maldivian Civil Servants Head to India for Capacity Building

The 27th batch of Maldivian Civil Servants has departed for India to participate in a 2-week long Capacity Building Programme in Field Administration at NCGG Mussorie and New Delhi from 14th August to 25th August. 

The training is being conducted under the MoU signed between Civil Services Commission (CSC) Maldives and National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) in June 2019. The batch consists of 40 civil servants from various public institutions across Maldives like Ministries & Institutions in Male’, Schools & Hospitals across the islands officials from Atolls & Island councils, etc. With this batch, the total number of trainees trained under the MoU would be 830.

The capacity-building programmes under MoU are being conducted as per the requirements indicated by CSC Maldives. From time to time there is a joint review of programmes by both CSC Maldives and NCGG besides feedback from participants. NCGG is committed to achieving the target of training 1000 civil servants in 05 years (by June 2024). Given the Govt of Maldives and CSC’s interest to train more civil servants under the programme, both sides are deliberating to renew the MoU. 

During the two-week stay at NCGG, New Delhi, participants will have expert talks & deliberations on topics like the India-Maldives relationship, Approaches for inclusive development, changing paradigm of governance, Ethical perspective in governance, Innovation in public administration, Gender and development: policies and practices, Centralized public grievance redressal & monitoring system, PPP for infrastructure development, Public Health behaviour, MSME & SMEs, Public contracts and policies, Climate Change & its impact on biodiversity, various initiatives in India for Poverty elimination, Skill development, etc., Right to Information Act, Anti-Corruption Strategies, Vigilance administration, e-Governance and digital India, Digital governance and public service delivery, tax administration and digital governance, Fintech and inclusion, Stress management, Sanitation and public health behaviour, etc. As part of the training, they will also get a chance to visit the beautiful & one of the wonders of the world, the Taj Mahal.

The partnership between India and Maldives is multifaceted, the collaboration in the area of training and capacity building is a key pillar of this partnership & is further growing. Since 2019, despite COVID-19 challenges, more than 2500 Maldivians have travelled to India to participate in various capacity-building training programmes in areas ranging from Civil Services & Good Governance, Security, Customs, Media, Judiciary, Audit & Finance, Health, Agriculture, Decentralization, Environment, Youth and Sports, etc under various bilateral MoUs, ITEC, ICCR fellowship, etc. Besides that, more than 1700 virtual training slots have been utilised in various areas. 

The National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) is committed to fostering knowledge exchange and collaboration among civil servants from India and other developing countries, especially neighbouring countries. Aligned with the philosophy of ‘Vasudeva Kutumbakam’ and ‘neighbourhood first’ policy advocated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the capacity-building programmes of NCGG aims to promote citizen-centric policies, good governance, enhanced service delivery, and ultimately improve the quality of life for citizens, ensuring inclusivity.
