The Ministry of Finance has announced its intention to commission the construction of a national agricultural laboratory in Fuvahmulah City.
The Finance Ministry will begin a national bidding process to select a contractor, with inquiries accepted until September 3 and bids opening on September 21.
The requests for this project stems from the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture, operating within the framework of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Project for Developing Sustainable Agricultural Economy.
The proposed laboratory’s primary functions will include conducting detailed analyses, diagnosing plant diseases, and facilitating the cultivation of plant tissues.
This laboratory holds particular significance as it is to become the first facility of its kind in the Maldives.
The necessary funds for this initiative have been earmarked, with India contributing the requisite equipment, while Japan will extend support through the Sustainable Economic Empowerment and Development for SMEs (SEEDS) project.
