Thoddoo MP Hassan Shiyan Rejoins to MDP

Thoddoo MP Hassan Shiyan has formally reestablished his affiliation with the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). 

Shiyan presented his completed membership application to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Friday.

Hassan Shiyan, who is notably recognised as one of the steadfast supporters of former President Nasheed, stands among the thirteen parliamentarians who enlisted themselves with The Democrats, an entity under Nasheed’s leadership.

Having previously departed from the MDP, Shiyan had expressed pointed criticisms towards President Solih and the ruling administration. Shiyan’s decision to rejoin the MDP, he conveyed, was motivated by the widespread sentiment within his constituency urging his return. 

While Thoddoo MP Shiyan formalised his reunion with the MDP on this occasion, an accompanying occurrence was noted in the political arena. Kulhudhuffushi MP Yasir Latheef elected to relinquish his association with The Democrats, subsequently opting to realign himself with MDP.
