The license was handed over to Ryan Goodnight, Starlink’s Market Access Director, by Maldives government representative Technology Minister Aminath Shauna during a ceremony at the NCIT.
Minister Shauna emphasised that achieving this milestone required 1.5 years of collaborative effort, making the Maldives the first South Asian nation to adopt Starlink services.
During the event, Ryan conveyed Starlink’s preparedness to introduce its advanced network services to the Maldives, highlighting the market’s significance.
He also emphasised SpaceX’s strategy to utilise its satellites for global high-speed, low-latency broadband internet provision.
SpaceX also assured that its involvement in the Maldives would not hinder the revenues of existing internet service providers like Ooredoo, DHIRAAGU, and Raajje Online.
