The Maldives Customs Service has officially begun the implementation of a new project aimed at the construction of an office building in Maafaru, situated within the Noonu Atoll on Thursday.

The initiation of the Customs office building project aligns with the government’s approach of decentralising services and enhancing their reach across various atolls.

The foundational stone-laying ceremony for this building was attended by key figures, including Commissioner General of Customs Abdulla Shareef, Parliamentarian Ahmed Haroon, and Deputy Commissioner of Customs Mahmood Riyaz.

Addressing the gathering at the ceremony, Commissioner General Shareef highlighted the significance of the forthcoming office building in the overall structural advancement of Customs.

He emphasised that this office is to play a pivotal role in offering Customs services to both commercial enterprises and the general public in the northern region.

For the execution of this project, Customs has entered into an agreement with Future Homes Private Limited.

The responsibility assigned to the company is to complete the construction within a timeframe of 540 days, at an estimated cost of USD 434,500. The envisioned scope of the project encompasses not only a dedicated office space but also an accommodation block.
