The parliamentary session was adjourned as the necessary quorum was not met.
As the third session of the third term commenced, Speaker of the Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed stated that, in accordance with legal stipulations, a minimum of 22 members were required to be present to establish the quorum.
The session had to be adjourned due to the fact that the required number of attendees was not achieved. A significant number of members are currently engaged in campaign trips across the atolls, coinciding with the upcoming presidential election.
Furthermore, a portion of the Members of Parliament are actively participating in the electoral process. This dual role has led to the absence of several members during the two preceding parliamentary sessions.
This marks the third consecutive session in which the parliament has been unable to function as intended since the commencement of this term.
