Maldivian Table Tennis and Taekwondo Teams Wins Medals in IOIG 2023

Maldives secured medals in table tennis and taekwondo, including one gold for the National Women’s Table Tennis team and two bronze and two silver for the National Taekwondo team, during the 11th Indian Ocean Island Games held in Madagascar.

The women’s table tennis team achieved a significant feat by securing the gold medal. They successfully defended their title from the previous IOIG, becoming the first Dhivehi sports team to do so.

Comprising athletes, Fathimath Dheema Ali, Aminath Rafa Nazim, Fathimath Jumana Nimal, Laisa Fathullah Ismail, Mishka Mohamed Ibrahim, and Aminath Shiura Shareef, the team displayed their skill by emerging victorious in all four of their matches.

Fathimath Ibrahim contributed a silver and a bronze medal, with her silver secured in the women’s under 53 kg category. Jannath Jawadh added to the accomplishments by attaining a bronze medal in the women’s under 46 kg category.

Ahmed Fazeel clinched a silver medal in the men’s under 87 kg category, demonstrating his proficiency on the mat. 

Mohamed Saifshan Abdullah displayed dedicated participation in the men’s under 54 kg category, representing the Maldives earnestly. Similarly, Mohamed Roodh Ahmed’s performance in the men’s under 63 kg category showcased his determination in the games despite missing a bronze medal to Ali Ahmed from Comoros.
