The Election Commission of Maldives (ECM) has made an announcement regarding the recruitment of officials for the upcoming presidential election.
Interested parties have until September 5 at 1:00 p.m. to submit their applications.
According to ECM Vice-President Ismail Habeeb, the training process for the officials involved in this year’s presidential election is currently in progress, taking place both in the city and the provinces. While a sufficient number of officials have been identified for the election, certain candidates have not exhibited the expected level of cooperation in terms of responding to the call for participation in training programmes.
Interestingly, approximately 600 individuals have expressed their intent to assume roles as election officers, yet they have failed to attend the requisite training sessions.
Habeeb explained that had these candidates actively participated in the training, the existing pool of officials would have proven adequate. Consequently, the reserve force has been activated to compensate for the shortfall. The ECM acknowledges the necessity for additional officials, as highlighted by Habeeb.
It is noteworthy that a total of 574 ballot boxes will be strategically positioned for this year’s presidential election.
After stages of evaluation and observation, the final list of eligible voters for the upcoming election has been released, encompassing a grand total of 282,395 individuals.
