Deputy Minister of Transport, Hamad Abdul Ghani, has made serious allegations against Transport Minister Aishath Nahula following his removal from duty.

The allegations come amidst claims of corruption and whistleblower protection breaches within the Ministry.

In a letter addressed to Minister Nahula, Deputy Minister Hamad strongly denied the allegations outlined in a memo. The letter asserts that the memo was founded on personal motives rather than professional concerns.

Originally highlighting concerns of corruption within the Transport Ministry and communication under the Whistleblower Protection Act, the memo now appears to be the epicenter of a political struggle.

Hamad’s letter contends that instead of investigating the serious allegations he brought forth, the Minister has opted to silence those who raise concerns about the potential violation of rules and regulations. This approach, Hamad argues, only lends credence to the suspicions surrounding the Minister’s involvement.

Furthermore, Hamad has accused Minister Nahula of impeding an ongoing investigation concerning a foreign woman getting harassed at a driving school.

He states that the timing of his own sidelining, which followed his disclosure of the issues plaguing the ministry, raises questions about the coincidental nature of the events.

“There is no reasonable explanation to dismiss the notion that my removal from my duties promptly after highlighting concerning matters within the ministry is purely coincidental,” Hamad expressed.

Hamad alleges that Minister Nahula has failed to uphold her responsibilities as outlined by the Constitution. He claims that instead of adhering to the general policies established by the President to govern the nation, the Minister is advocating for and propagating the agenda of a distinct political party.
