President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) presidential candidate, has reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling his promises for the upcoming presidential election, amounting to MVR 31 billion.
President Solih acknowledged that during the campaign, he had pledged a range of commitments totaling between MVR 43 to 45 billion. He emphasised that substantial progress had been made in delivering on these promises.
“As of today, my commitments for this year’s election stand at approximately MVR 31 billion, as per our calculations,” President Solih stated, leaving room for potential adjustments in the near future.
President Solih also highlighted the positive trajectory of the state’s revenue since he assumed office in 2023. During that time, the state’s revenue has grown from MVR 22 billion to the current figure of MVR 34 billion. He expressed confidence that this trend would continue, projecting government revenue to reach MVR 45 billion.
“We have the capability and determination to fulfill these promises within the next five years. There should be no doubt about that,” President Solih asserted.
Addressing recent allegations against the FENAKA Corporation, one of the state-owned entities facing significant debt, President Solih clarified the corporation’s primary objective. He emphasised that FENAKA was not established with the primary goal of generating revenue for the state.
Instead, its core mission is to provide essential services to rural areas, aligning with the government’s commitment to improving the quality of life for all citizens.
