The Maldives Media Council (MMC) has issued a statement today, calling upon media outlets to uphold the principles of truth and impartiality when reporting on presidential candidates and their running mates.
This comes in response to a growing number of complaints received by the council regarding the dissemination of false information in election-related news.

In their statement, the MMC underlined the importance of accurate reporting during this crucial period in the Maldives’ political landscape.
They stressed that responsible journalism plays a fundamental role in providing voters with reliable information to make informed decisions.
One of the key concerns addressed by the council is the issue of “Anti-Campaigning,” where news media may engage in activities that undermine a candidate or their campaign. The MMC called upon all news outlets to refrain from such practices and maintain a neutral stance in their reporting.
Additionally, the council has vowed to investigate and address any further issues reported to them in connection with election-related news.
MMC stated that it is committed to ensuring that any violations of journalistic ethics are reported to the relevant authorities for appropriate action.
