President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed that the report published by the Maldives’ National Commission of Inquiry (CONI), following its investigation into the fall of the first MDP administration in 2012, has gone missing.
In response, a police complaint has been filed to locate the report.
Speaking at a campaign rally in HDh. Neykurendhoo today, President Solih expressed his concern over the disappearance of the CONI report and announced the filing of a police complaint to locate it.
The events in question date back to February 7, 2012, when Mohamed Nasheed resigned from the presidency amidst months of unrest. Nasheed later claimed he was forced to resign in the face of a mutiny. However, the CONI report contradicts this assertion.
The inquiry, which spanned six months and involved the questioning of 293 individuals, including 15 repeatedly, concluded that Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik’s takeover as president was in accordance with the law and that Nasheed was not forced or coerced into resigning.
