Maldives Correctional Services (MCS) has introduced Axon body-worn cameras into the uniforms of frontline prison officers across all correctional facilities today.

According to a spokesperson for MCS, the implementation of body-worn cameras will be a permanent fixture for frontline officers working in prisons under their jurisdiction.

The primary function of these body-worn cameras is to record both video and audio, thereby facilitating investigations of incidents within the correctional facilities.

One feature is the inability to edit the recorded footage, ensuring that investigations are not hindered.

This measure is expected to have a dual purpose – enhancing the safety of prisoners and prison officers.

By providing an objective record of events, it offers protection for all parties involved and contributes to maintaining a secure environment within correctional facilities.
