Gasim Ibrahim, the presidential candidate representing the Jumhooree Party (JP), has made a significant pledge to bridge the gap between the capital city, Male’, and the other islands of the Maldives.
His commitment involves ensuring that services and facilities are accessible to all citizens at uniform prices.
Speaking at a campaign rally, Gasim outlined his vision for the country, emphasising the creation of modern urban centers throughout the nation, each equipped with advanced amenities and opportunities.
He stressed that this plan would be executed in consultation with experts familiar with the practices of the world’s most advanced cities.
One pressing issue in the Maldives has been the disparity in basic service provision between urban areas like Male’ and islands. Gasim vowed that if elected, his government would strive to establish uniform pricing for essential services across the entire country.
Furthermore, Gasim extended his promise to waive fines previously imposed on electricity and water services during his tenure. This gesture complements the government’s earlier commitment to waive rent for social housing units in the capital, which Gasim intends to extend to provinces as well.
Addressing concerns about property allocation, Gasim asserted that previous governments had neglected the principles of justice in this regard, leaving citizens dissatisfied with empty promises.
