Maldives Gears Up for 2023 Presidential Election with Over 282,000 Eligible Voters

In anticipation of the 2023 Presidential Election, the Maldives is gearing up for an electoral event that will see a substantial eligible voting population of 282,395 individuals spread across various regions.
The numbers are as follows:
- Maldives: 282,395 voters
- Male city: 54,349 voters
- Addu city: 25,936 voters
- Haa Dhaalu Atoll: 19,650 voters
- Raa Atoll: 17,203 voters
- Haa Alif Atoll: 16,649 voters
- Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll: 15,641 voters
- Shaviyani Atoll: 13,285 voters
- Laamu Atoll: 13,142 voters
- Noonu Atoll: 12,425 voters
- Thaa Atoll: 11,721 voters
- Gaafu Alifu Atoll: 10,603 voters
- Baa Atoll: 10,400 voters
- Kaafu Atoll: 9,988 voters
- Lhaviyani Atoll: 9,938 voters
- Fuvahmulah: 9,500 voters
- Alif Dhaalu Atoll: 8,028 voters
- Alif Alif Atoll: 5,908 voters
- Dhaalu Atoll: 5,789 voters
- Meemu Atoll: 5,464 voters
- Faafu Atoll: 4,360 voters
- Vaavu Atoll: 1,948 voters
With a total of 285,219 ballot papers printed for use in the upcoming presidential election, the Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has prepared for the democratic process.
A total of 574 polling stations will be established across the Maldives and five other countries for this year’s presidential election.
This election signifies a significant milestone, as it features the highest number of candidates competing for the presidency since the introduction of the multi-party system. Specifically, there are eight candidates in contention for the presidential election, comprising five candidates from political parties and three independent candidates.
The initial round of voting is slated for September 9, with a potential second round scheduled for September 30.
