The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has issued a stern warning against the practice of offering bribes for votes in the upcoming presidential election, urging citizens to uphold the principles of fair and lawful campaigning.

In a statement released yesterday, the ACC emphasised its commitment to ensuring that the electoral process remains transparent and compliant with existing laws and regulations.

“During the campaign period, candidates and those seeking to garner support for candidates are strongly urged not to exert undue influence on voters, either to secure or abstain from voting for a specific candidate. Moreover, the offering of money or gifts as bribes to sway votes is strictly prohibited,” the ACC stated.

Additionally, the ACC called on the public not to entertain any attempts to manipulate their voting decisions through inducements or pressure tactics.

The Commission further encouraged individuals to promptly report any instances where they encounter activities that may lead to personal gain or financial benefit, stemming from their involvement in the electoral process.

The ACC affirmed its commitment to thoroughly investigate any reported cases of corruption and take appropriate actions in accordance with the law.

As the presidential election approaches, the ACC’s message underscores the importance of maintaining the integrity of the electoral system and ensuring that voters are free to make their choices based on their genuine preferences, free from any form of coercion or inducement.
