Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the presidential candidate for the People’s National Congress (PNC), announced his commitment to demolish the aging Sina-male’ flats in the city and replace them with 15,000 new housing units.

Speaking at the inauguration of a campaign booth in the city, Muizzu emphasised the urgent need for action as the existing flats were approaching a state of collapse.

Muizzu revealed that the strategic plan of the Male’ City Council had long included the demolition of these flats and the subsequent construction of new buildings. However, he claimed that the President Solih’s government had obstructed progress.

“The same road was closed,” stated Muizzu, who also serves as the Mayor of Male’ City. He expressed his determination to move forward with the demolition and reconstruction project should he secure victory in the upcoming presidential election.

Muizzu’s vision extends beyond merely addressing the housing needs of the 128 families currently residing in the Sina-Male’ flats. He outlined plans for the development of a modern housing complex that would consist of 15,000 housing units, designed to meet contemporary standards.

The proposed complex would provide ample space, parking facilities, and other amenities, catering to both social housing and mid- to high-end housing requirements.
